Story Ideas
I do not know how many of you have thought about this idea, but how many great stories have never been written because the person who thought them up forgot them? I mean, like somebody's walking down the road, when they see something that sparks an idea for a story. They think that it make for a great story, but their mind is busy on other things. They then forget their beautiful idea, never to write that story.
Now, think about how many people get the idea to write a story from a story? I know I do all the time. I'll read a book, and after I'm done, I want to go and write my own book, because my mind is full of ideas. So, that book that the person (let's call him Mr. Anderson) never wrote, but had an excellent idea sparked from something, will never see the light of day. That means that all of those people who would have read that book would have never thought up their own ideas, and therefore never would have written their own story.
And, now I'm gonna add one more thing in here. How many people have come up with good ideas to write books but never do because they are not good writers, or they don't have the time, or something along those lines? How many good ideas are going to waste because of this? I know I have so many ideas for books. I do want to become a novelist some time in my life, and bring these ideas to life. But, like many people in the world, it's just too hard to start off writing a novel.
So, with the books that we do have, just remember that that's like 1/10 of the great books that could be out there. What if J.K. Rowling never had the idea for Harry Potter? It's one of the greatest-selling series ever. But, if she never started writing, the generations of today would not be full of ideas.
Books are not just for reading and enjoying. They are not to just learn to find all of those literary techniques. There's a deeper meaning for books. They spark some of the greatest ideas. I bet stuff written in novels, things that were never thought to become realisitic, have become realisitic because of that book. Appreciate books. Read books. And maybe someday you will write the next great series. Look at Dan Brown. That guy makes like $150 million dollars. And all he does is write books. Read. Get ideas. Write. If you don't want to write a 500-page book, then just put your ideas down on a piece of paper. Maybe someday, those ideas will come to life and make for a most fantastic book.
